Johns Island has traditionally been considered rural
and less developed than nieghboring James Island, but
as the Charleston metro area continues to grow more
development is occuring on this beautiful sea island.
Grimball Gates, Hope Plantation, and Gift Plantation
are just a few of the amenitied communities under development
on Johns Island. Johns Island is protected from the
ocean by the private resorts of Kiawah Island and Seabrook
Island.
Kiawah Island is a barrier island located only 35 minutes
from historic Charleston. Kiawah is a world class private
golf and tennis resort developed in harmony with its
surroundings. Much of the scenery and architecture can
be seen in the movie The Legend of Bagger Vance.
There are approximately 2,500 permanent residents on
Kiawah today. Kiawah has a delightful combination of
vacation homes and permanent homes with residents of
all ages. There are beautiful beaches and numerous recreational
activities offered by the resort.
Seabrook Island, a neighbor to Kiawah, is the best kept
secret among resorts in the area. As pretty as Kiawah
with all the amenities of its more famous neighbor,
Seabrook offers an excellent value to the resort capable
bargain hunter. Seabrook has 1800 year round residents
plus summer residents.
Similar to Johns Island, Wadmalaw Island hasalso been
considered rural and undeveloped, but as Charleston
continues to grow more people are exploring wadmalaw
for real estate opportunities.Wadmalaw is famous for
the raucous Rockville Regatta, held in July each year.
